Instagram feed to die for
Okay so, the title of this post maybe is a little bit exaggerated. But, I absolutely believe you can create the cool-but-you Instagram feed we – the Insta addicts we are – want, with a few simple steps.
I get a lot of Q’s on and about my insta. Besides the ‘where are your shoes from?’ , I also get “which filter do you use?’, ‘how do you get a balanced feed?’, etcetera, etcetera. So, that started the thinking about my insta tactics and the until now unwritten 5 rules I apply:
For me, selfies always get a lot of hits on the like button, but, that doesn’t mean I only do selfies. What I want to say is, keep your feed divers. Be creative and vary with different angles and sceneries. Like: a shoe photo after a selfie, then upload a look photo and start the day with your breakfast etc. Plus: pick the best photo. So, 10 photos of the same moment in 1 minute, will start your followers not to hit that like button, but the unfollow button. And we do not want that to happen ever-ever-ever!
2. keep it real
Okay, helping mother nature a little bit out with apps like Facetune, that’s totally fine right? I mean, patching up some uneven skin spots or smoothing fine lines underneath the eyes, why wouldn’t you? But, smoothing your face that much you end up looking like an vanilla iced cake, is absolutely a no-go. Also, please don’t skinny your legs or arms or whatever part of your body. It’s always visible in the background of your photo, plus: just embrace your curves, Beyonce does it! Oh and, if you give yourself a little touch up…don’t forget your friends. In Holland we have this famous lady, and she brushes herself (like a vanilla iced cake) but never ever beautifies her friends on the photo. So sad!
3. remember why your followers follow you
This actually takes some investigation. Scroll down your stream and see what kind of photo’s get either commented most or liked most. Remember (or write down) these and try to find a pattern since these photo’s are the reason why people are following you. For instance in my case, I discovered my most liked photo’s where happy, positive vibe snaps telling a short story about life in New York. Plus, mostly: all photo’s contain a little bit of fashion. For these reasons, I don’t post quotes or depressing uploads (like: “feeling sad alone” captioned at a photo with a sad face). I always try to turn it into something fun, try to always put a accessory in (if im not posting an outfit) and always try to laugh with my eyes.
4. skip the insta layers
Insta layers: for me a big no-no. The first thing when it comes down to the actual photo to post is to make sure you take it with good lightening. Smartphone cams are awesome but, only with enough light. Second rule, use cool edit apps like VSCO cam (invest in extra layers) and work with only a few layers. This will give all the photo’s in your stream the same feel which eventually leads to a balanced feed.
5. trending hashtags do not work
The ‘#prettygirl #skinny #cupcake #love #happy #fashion #followme #instagood #followforlikes #thisdoesnotmakeANYsense’ hashtags, give me an instant rash. Please drop these ridiculous waste of letters. I only use hashtags to either add some short suiting words to my caption or to redefine the location. Like: Having this breakfast #cheatmeal. Or: Soho, so fancy this morning #newyork #moments.
hope these instagram tips and tricks will help you awesomize your insta instantly! happy sunday you!
